The short version
- Screen Studio is a screen recorder for Mac. You record and edit the video yourself, for $9 a month on the yearly plan.
- Swoopcut is a service. We film your web app for you, and you pay after a watermarked preview. Prices start at $149.
- If you make many videos and like editing, Screen Studio is the better buy. If you need one launch video and have no time to make it, Swoopcut fits better.
We run Swoopcut, so read this with that in mind. Screen Studio’s facts come from its own site on 18 October 2026.
Should you record your launch video yourself?
Record it yourself if you have a Mac, a few free hours and a clear idea of the shots. Screen Studio does the hard parts of the edit for you: it adds the zooms, smooths the cursor and frames the shot. You still write the script, rehearse the flow and re-take the parts that go wrong.
Have it made if launch week is already full. With Swoopcut you send a link to your app, a test login for a demo account and one line on what to show. We film it and send a watermarked preview within 48 hours of working access.

Where Screen Studio wins
- Cost per video. At $9 a month on the yearly plan, a whole year costs $108. If you make more than one or two videos a year, that is far less than paying per video.
- Control. You pick every shot and can re-take any of them the moment you change your mind. Nobody waits on anybody.
- Anything on your screen. It records desktop apps, terminals and websites alike. Swoopcut only films apps that open in a browser.
- Instant sharing. Screen Studio makes shareable links in 1080p at 60 fps, for videos up to 30 minutes.
Where Swoopcut wins
- No recording or editing. You don’t write a shot list, rehearse or edit. We film the launch video of your app in a real browser at 60 fps, with smooth zooms on every click.
- Any computer. Screen Studio says it has no near-future plans for Windows. Swoopcut needs only a link to your app, so your own machine doesn’t matter.
- You see it before you pay. If the preview isn’t usable for your launch, you don’t pay.
- Every size at once. The Launch Pack comes in 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16, plus social cuts, with captions and a thumbnail for each size.
What does each option cost for one launch video?
For a single launch video, Screen Studio costs $29 for one month, or $108 for the yearly plan, plus your time to make it. The Swoopcut Launch Clip is $149, tax included, for one 20 to 45 second clip with a social cut under 10 MB, captions and a thumbnail. If you ship often and want the video filmed again after each release, Always Fresh is $249 a month for up to 4 new or re-recorded clips.
Other ways to get a launch video
Screen Studio and Swoopcut aren’t the only options. AI generators such as MakeMyDemo and URLmotion are cheaper still, and studios such as Flowjam sell reach along with the film.
