The short version
- Storylane is interactive demo software: viewers click through a demo you build in its editor. The free plan has 1 seat and 1 published demo. Paid plans start at $50 a month, or $40 a month on the yearly toggle.
- Swoopcut is a service. We film a launch video of your web app for you, and you pay after a watermarked preview. Prices start at $149.
- Pick Storylane when buyers should try the product themselves. Pick a filmed video when the clip goes on your landing page, Product Hunt or social feeds.
We run Swoopcut, so read this with that in mind. Storylane’s facts come from storylane.io/pricing and its docs on 21 October 2026. Plans change, so check them before you buy.
Is Storylane good for a launch video?
Storylane is built for interactive demos, and it does those well. You build a demo, add guided steps and text, and share a link that visitors click through at their own pace. The pricing page also lists sandbox demos, Hubs (deal rooms) and integrations with HubSpot, Zapier and Salesforce on the higher plans.
It can export a demo as a GIF on every plan, including Free. Starter and the plans above it add an MP4 video export. Storylane’s docs say a downloaded demo loses its interactivity and becomes a view-only GIF or video. That makes it a way to turn a demo into a clip, not a recording of someone using your live app.
Swoopcut does not make interactive demos. If you want a click-through demo, Storylane or a tool like it is the right buy.

Where Storylane wins
- Buyers try it themselves. A demo lets a visitor click through the product before signing up, which a video can’t do.
- Sales tooling. Starter adds HubSpot and Zapier integrations and account reveal for 250 demo visitors a month. Salesforce comes with Premium.
- Free to start. The Free plan gives 1 seat and 1 published demo, with a GIF export.
- Sandboxes and Hubs. Storylane’s home page describes sandbox demos that let buyers explore a clone of the product, and Hubs, which bundle demos, pricing and security docs behind one link.
- More than Chrome web apps. The pricing table lists a Chrome extension and a Mac and Windows desktop app. Swoopcut only records web apps that open in Chrome.
Where Swoopcut wins
- It looks like a launch video. We film the launch video of your app in a real browser at 1080p60, with camera moves that follow the cursor.
- You don’t build anything. Send the app link, a demo account with seeded data and 2FA off, and one line on what to show. A watermarked preview arrives within 48 hours of working access.
- You see it before you pay. If the video isn’t usable, you don’t pay.
- Prices are on the page. The Launch Clip is $149, the Launch Pack is $399 for 3 clips in 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16, and Always Fresh is $249 a month.
Which one fits?
- Pick Storylane if your sales team wants prospects to click through the product.
- Pick Storylane if you want to try a demo tool at no cost first. The Free plan covers 1 seat and 1 published demo.
- Pick a filmed launch video if you need a clip for your landing page, a Product Hunt launch or a post on X. The Launch Clip is $149 for one 20 to 45 second clip with captions and a thumbnail.
- Pick both if you want a click-through demo on your site and a filmed clip for launch posts and ads.
